Capel CS Ltd were awarded their third major project for MTR Elizabeth Line in October 2020, as part of the On Network Stations Improvement Programme (ONSIP) West Package 1, the works were carried out under the JCT Design & Build 2011 with NR10 Amendments form of contract with an onsite contract period of 36 weeks. The Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and CCTV designs have been developed from Grip 4 to Grip 5.

Ticket Office
The works at Taplow Station include for the Refurbishment and remodelling of the Ticket Office and Booking Hall, a new staff mess facility to the rear of the Ticket Office, refurbishing the station toilets, new MTR store room and the provision for a Tenancy unit.
Station Entrance
The Southern side of the station has a new entrance constructed (R.A.G.E. Unit), this is a glazed structure incorporating a new gateline and station assets.

Booking Hall
Enabling works included a Temporary Ticket Office, staff mess and temporary toilets to allow the works to be carried out while the station remains operational.
Ticket Office
To develop the design pre-construction surveys included Foundations, Topographical and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey, Civils Survey, Structural Survey, Damp Survey, M&E Survey and a Roof survey.
Station Entrance
The remit was to provide a larger Booking Hall to aid passenger flow through the station, this incorporated additional entrances being formed to either side of the Booking Hall and a new gateline will be provided, whilst a smaller more modern and user friendly Ticket Office has been constructed.

Booking Hall
The works within the Ticket Office and Booking Hall included a complete strip out of the existing wall, floor and ceiling finishes, all redundant services were terminated and removed. Temporary works were installed to allow the removal of the internal dividing wall between the existing Booking Hall and Ticket Office, forming the new Ticket Office Window opening and additional station entrance.

To enhance passenger experience new supplies have been installed within the fabric of the building to give the Booking Hall a clutter free appearance and unified look. New suspended ceiling system has been installed through the area, with new LED lighting. New floor tiling was installed prior to the installation of the gateline. The Booking Hall received full decoration, new roller shutters to secure the area, new station assets to include TVM, CCTV and Wonderwalls.
Station Entrance
The Ticket Office has a new ticket window, counters and cabinetry and secondary security glazing to improve security to the area. The Ticket Office also benefits from air conditioning to provide heating and cooling to the space, a new MVHR system provides ventilation to the space.
A new Comms rack has been installed to accommodate the station CCTV and SISS requirements, new suspended ceiling system, Vinyl flooring and full decoration on completion.
The electrical supplies have been upgraded to facilitate the works, this includes new distribution boards, lighting, small power and data and COMMs, while maintaining the operation of existing assets to not impact on the day to day operation of the station.
Toilets
The existing Male and Female toilets were taken out of use and stripped out, including sanitary ware, cubicles, ceilings, floor and wall finishes, along with the M&E supplies. New ceilings have been installed, the walls have been made good and received new wall tiling in line with the MTR Elizabeth Line branding.

Southern Entrance

The South side of the station has had a new secondary entrance constructed. Surveys were carried out in order to develop the design. Capel CS and their design team worked closely with the MTR Elizabeth Line project team to develop the design to GRIP 5 stage. The final position for the new entrance being part within the station car park and part on platform 1, a safe worksite was established along the rear of platform 1 to allow the works to progress during normal working hours. To facilitate the new Remote Access Gateline Enclosure (R.A.G.E) existing station assets were removed, these included CCTV, CIS and light column. The foundation was designed to bridge existing services and incorporate existing inspection chambers. The enclosure is constructed from Stainless Steel Vertical Posts, Galvanised Mild Steel Roof Structure, and Toughened Safety Glass. The roof is finished with insulated Kingspan panels.

Below ground ducting was installed to provide routes for the newly installed cables, serving small power, lighting, CCTV and the new Gateline

External Works
External works include relining to the existing canopy box gutter along platform 4, redecoration to the existing canopy on platform 4, the existing paint had lead content so the preparation of the canopy members was carried out under controlled conditions and in accordance with current legislation, with the redecoration to the platform canopy on completion, these activities are being carried out within planned possessions and isolations.
New boundary fencing has been provided to both the North and South side of the station, the old heritage fencing has been carefully removed and given to Railway Heritage for their museum. The North Side forecourt canopy has received new lighting and platform furniture (Light columns, Help Points) have received new decoration
Works have been carried out on platform 3 (Island platform), this included the excavation of the gravel area, removal of the existing planter and installation of new aco drainage channels, a safe worksite was setup on platform 3, and the area excavated down to formation, the spoil was bagged and stored ready to be removed from the worksite. A temporary works design was carried out for a track bridge to allow access for plant and materials to platform 3 from platform 4. Removal of the spoil, importing type 1 MOT and the tarmac surfacing was all carried out within planned possessions and isolations to complete this element of the works.
